Christmas Stress
Christmas is here and all the hype involved. Leaving aside the history of this celebration, on what I write today is about the sequence of social behaviors almost automated and in many cases they even cause stress. Year after year, hundreds of people are like sheep led to the implementation of certain social events not unreasonable and unnecessary people stop perpetuating, even if that causes the stress. Are mainly two: the purchase of gifts and menus.
1. The purchase of gifts. How could we have reached a point where we are not aware of the great trap of consumerism ? The shopping centers to be rolled out search and seizure of gifts, decorations and food. Promotions, offers, discounts, promises, all the facilities appear now, everything revolves around trade. And what is the justification we sell? The advertisements promise smiles and happiness for the person to whom you give away the product X to brand Y. And here are good. They know sell well, know it with subtlety. No matter how creative and original to be an advertisement, that is, it remains possible to reduce all to the same message: buy this product.
When I think of these things I always remember the movie They Live, John Carpenter, where all the ads they see on the street and television contain subliminal messages unconsciously forcing people that come do what they say, and although the plot of this film is the way that has a controlled alien race to keep doing what interests them, I think the parallels (and criticism of the film to the consumer society) is more than evident.
The topic of subliminal advertising is very controversial and is not the subject of this post. Serious literature about it is scarce and many researchers argue that there is strong evidence that show.
Many people have instituted a firm belief that you need to buy things at this time, the "Christmas", and start racking, caravans, the burdens and "stress." And it is not I have anything against the act itself of giving. What saddens me a bit is that it is distorting the concept of gift making it an act of commitment to having to do so exclusively on "important dates" rather than a spontaneous act independently of the calendar.
2. Menus. Why can not a normal lunch or dinner on Christmas Eve / Christmas and New Year's Eve / New Year? What moves us to think that you need to eat something different? But also not anything different, but has to be something different that is likely to be considered by guests as a luxury. In principle could be understood that if a day is considered especially the regardless of the cause, wants to party with a meal to get out of the ordinary. The problem is, on one side and in my view, when these considerations are made only once a year and for a reason that many do not really motivation, being more out of habit than anything else. If the subject is Christmas, it would be reasonable that those who celebrate were practicing Christians. The other option is to move from religious considerations and focus on the celebration as an opportunity to be with loved ones and family away to "go home for Christmas." Is not it a bit sad to only see once a year? When this happens, can we be sure that assistance is really sincere and not compromise or custom? I do not know, ask.
Anyway, here the stress is given in the beating of hours that mothers and grandmothers were stuck in the kitchen to prepare the most delicious dishes, including insults, cries and imprecations against the overwhelming view of the amount of work and time involved, further aggravated when some culinary exercises go wrong. Of course, anyone says it tastes bad after the beating he has penetrated. Why should I eat until you drop? Why, besides the quality, quantity also matters? Does a war looming and I'm not aware of? Why is that being healthy all year but at this time? And I just ask you all this necessary? It really is this what Christmas means in the XXI century? Who has taught us, how we learned to understand it?
also the prospect of meeting people (family included) with which one does not get along can spoil a lot of the party. The fact is that all these questions lead to a negligible percentage of the population to call white depression.

do manual selection natural selection? Evolution misunderstood
Fragment end of the chapter "Evolution" of manual Fundamentals of Psychobiology
, VVAA.
"The gene pools of current populations are different solutions to environmental challenges past and present. They also represent potential for survival, higher or lower depending on their variability, for future challenges. Natural selection is a process that constantly acts on them, causing or avoiding change, not value judgments, no address, is opportunistic and, therefore, that evolution does take the path that the circumstances are imposed at all times either to generate new species or to to succumb. Our species is no exception to these circumstances, although the transmission of culture extragenic involved makes some of the items discussed here should be interpreted in a particular way and add to their own cultural evolution to explain our reality.
Choosing the sex of our children, the selection of embryos to eliminate certain alleles in the offspring or clone animals that have been shown to have special qualities to perform certain tasks is a reality. In the future, perhaps closer than we think, the gene enrichment to increase, for example, resistance to attrition and IQ become a reality. Until recently, all these actions were typical of science fiction novels. However, advances in assisted reproduction, DNA sequencing, genetic engineering and cloning, will make possible these facts and many more that have not yet imagined. No doubt this can help improve the quality of life for our descendants, but these techniques have also in our hands the tools necessary to steer the future of any kind including ours. The consequences resulting therefrom do not know. So far, evolution has been subject to the laws of chance and necessity, variability and selection natural. All living things around us (except pets and plants used in agriculture) have originated through these mechanisms of evolution. However, the new genetic techniques and assisted reproduction are allowing us to control or eliminate the chance, by intervening directly, maybe dangerously?, On two of the pillars of evolution, variability and heredity. The question then is, who now sets the necessity? Who or who made the selection? "

Will 300 Units Of Insulin Kill Someone
Excerpt from introduction to 4 ("Evolution") manual Fundamentals of Psychobiology , by various authors, edited by Sanz y Torres and published in 2009:
In the nineteenth century, Charles Darwin and Alfred Wallace independently discovered the mechanism by which evolution occurs, natural selection. In 1859 Darwin published his work The Origin of Species, which laid the foundations for the current theory of evolution and thus, the scientific framework in which fall since all discoveries that expand and corroborate Darwin's explanation of why diversity and evolution of all living beings.
In the sixteenth and seventeenth Nicolaus Copernicus, Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton revolutionized the way people think and see the world from the people of his time to make it clear that neither the Earth was the center of the universe, or that this was a static place and made to our measure. It was not until nearly two centuries to Charles Darwin deal the final blow to human vanity and his anthropocentric view of the world. The man, who seemed to stay out of both previous cosmological cataclysm, was also deposed to be proposed as a link in the evolutionary chain and worse for some was a descendant of the monkey! All this, of course, called into question to view human nature and deep convictions, so far, solid, eminently religious society, leading a host of criticisms and insults, some of which still survive.
But the transcendent idea of \u200b\u200blife and the special source that many people attribute to man, makes opponents of the theory of evolution continue wielding today, inconsistent, non-scientific arguments, since no empirical fact has refute or falsify the theory of evolution and support the development of an alternative scientific theory. One of the arguments against is that theory is not fully demonstrated. However, this argument makes no sense, because that is something that happens, not only the theory of evolution, but all scientific theories, because all are more or less to lack of corroboration in all space and time, but not lose its predictive value, explaining and applying the known universe. Another type of criticism are based on mere opinion that , as the case of creationism or its new version reprinted under the title of Intelligent Design , not supported by empirical facts but religious beliefs. For many people faith gives hope and transcendence human life, but those feelings and beliefs belong to the private and subjective. The views are used to the ideological debate but not for the scientist, in which only the objective facts, verifiable by observation and experimentation are what count.
Another source of criticism or misinterpretation of the theory of evolution is based on the simple ignorance of the meaning given in science to the terms evolution and theory. Thus, the term evolution, with extensive meanings (change, transformation, progress, growth, guidance, progress, direction or trend, etc.) leads to some people to give evolution a finalist misinterpretation. However, in the context of the theory of evolution, evolution is the term used to describe the change in diversity and adaptation of populations of organisms or the transformation of one species into another and never to reveal an idea of \u200b\u200bprogress , guidance, direction or purpose. Natural selection is pure opportunism.
The term theory is also misunderstood in this context that is given its ordinary meaning, ie the statements designating empirically unsubstantiated speculation (something similar to what science is known as a hypothesis). However, in the scientific context, a theory is a universal explanatory statement, supported by a set of scientific laws that serve to relate certain order of phenomena. In this context, the theory of evolution is a set of mathematical laws and functional which will serve to explain the diversity of living things and their causes. Naturally, like any scientific theory is subject to constant criticism and experimental and observational testing of their laws. As noted already in 1994 the biologist Francismo Ayala: "the evolutionary origin of organisms is now an established scientific conclusion with any degree of certainty comparable to other concepts certain scientists, such as the roundness of the earth, the rotation of the planets around the sun or the molecular composition of matter. This degree of certainty beyond reasonable doubt, is what biologists say when they say that evolution is a fact. The evolutionary origin of organisms is an accepted fact by biologists and informed everyone about it. "

Learning from our past
The uselessness of suffering, of María Jesús Álava Reyes :
"Personally I have always been fortunate to work with great people, because they were not excellent, which also has been, simply do not have in my mind, and not occupying a minimum of my energy. However, had committed an unforgivable mistake if I had not extracted the useful lessons from these experiences. All persons are or have been useful in our lives because we could all learn something, and sometimes something as basic as not letting it eat the moral! and do not suffer unnecessarily for the simple fact that these people seem to have, as one mission, the purpose of life bitter.
The human being is as complex as exciting, but it's true that sometimes we would have felt happier if we had not had the privilege know, share or work with certain people. There will be few readers who have not been found in their lives with some of these people, and certainly have more than once cursed his bad luck to coincide with them. But the truth is we do not usually have the opportunity to elect the majority of our companions.
When someone chooses are students which school we go, and luck determines the type of students and teachers who accompany us in a key stage in our lives. Later in the work we do not have many options to select those who will be our fellow workers. Even when we can choose the kind of restaurant, cinema or theater that we go, we can hardly control the people who are around us in those sites. Could go on giving examples that showed us our little choice in relation to many of the people we encounter in our lives, but I'm sure by now most of us are aware of this reality, however, evidence shows, day by day, we insist on not accepting this fact and, instead of generating resources that make us feel good about ourselves, we engage in a struggle as futile as stressful: they change the people around us and make what we think they should do!
How many Sometimes we hear that so and so or Somebody's niece is very bad because he had very bad luck with peers who have touched? and instead to seek, within the so-and-turn, the solutions to this situation, we get lost in a string of endless arguments that justify the discomfort of this person. Valiente we are giving aid! Instead of him from that pit, we are saying that will still be falling, because it has no grip.
may seem too crude, that's what we do normally, and thereby fall into one of the most characteristic errors of our society believe that our welfare depends to a large extent, on the other. Fortunately, reality is very different, and humans can extract useful lessons from these situations, for it will serve his intelligence and experience, but instead of doing so is dumped to find arguments to justify their discomfort, will fall into a false determinism that vitiate and condition of his life. What is to be romantic? The tantrum homeopathic
Before moving to the next paragraph, make a simple experiment: elect five people around them and ask them what they consider, a priori, more romantic, including dinner in the garden with aromatic candles under the stars and moonlight, and a pair of greasy BigMac's the nearest McDonald's with the reconstituted powdered Coke, hopefully, with tap water of questionable potability. What sounds most romantic priori as a gift: a box of chocolates for good with a red bow-shaped heart, or a miniature collector vehicle AT-AT Star Wars and a box of condoms to put "I Will Not Be your father" ? Can write the answer and / or the results of the experiment in the comments.
predict that, statistically, people will look more romantic chocolates and flowers and figurines geeks and junk food. And this is because it is what we breathe, what we see in movies, both current romantic comedies and in such other period set in past centuries in which leaves a very handsome French nobleman who woos the lady treated to gifts, bowing to all the living Christ and reciting poems beautiful and deep blush to caste concubine. How romantic, right? But times have changed, and gestures that were once a symbol of love now seem a pretentious, that is ridiculous in the eyes of the majority, which is the one imposed in each historical period the concept of normality. A fun read with humor about romance understood in terms of sentimentality found in this old post satirical entitled "How be romantic " of The world is crazy.
But not everyone understands the concept of romance as in the previous paragraph, and there are those who consider it a quality of love itself proposing a personalized romance based on the tastes and needs, of each person. Being romantic, from this other point of view, is to know the preferences and needs and satisfy your partner. No more. Personally, I resist a little, not to know and meet the needs of a person, but to consider that is to be romantic because it raises some incosistencias derived from the identification of love with romance as if they were synonymous or had to give necessarily a causal relationship between them:
1) So almost everyone is romantic but not like, because if the only prerequisite to be considered romantic interest is to know the tastes and needs of a person and be willing to cover, only then would it not be romantic abusers and freeloaders.
2) That person may prefer to MacDonald's for dinner in the garden and the chocolate figurines geeks, and that is not typically considered a romantic activity, or does not sound very romantic ... To be romantic is to give flowers? What if the flowers do not like and prefer marzipan? Do marzipan is less romantic than flowers? Why Paris has to be the city of love? Why to be considered romantic in Venice is to take a gondola ride with your partner? Why play Parcheesi can not be romantic?
3) So do not be romantic is not a quality on the idiosyncrasies of people and a personality trait that may or may not, but an absolute disgrace. A person who does not love to be romantic to your partner, because it would be romantic, in these terms, your partner do not mind. And it does not accept it. Something is wrong with that definition.
does not seem reasonable to consider that romance is an expression of affection to dry, that is love, not romance. I believe that romance is more a matter of "style", a more or less specific among the many possible and also to varying degrees. Take good care of a person and not worry about it being romantic, it's just love her (which is a lot). Surely all people who want to know your partner well, who care about her, who care, and yet, by his nature, never say of them that are romantic, romantic simply because it is an adjective not applies to everyone and that says nothing about whether much or little they want their loved ones.

How To Tie Bed Roof Rack
recently is putting together a good stir with homeopathy, and no wonder. The mess was set up when she stopped being simply a pseudoscience like others, to end formally implemented in the English university, raising blood blisters among critics, skeptics and scientists. Was the University of Zaragoza which has recently established the Chair of Homeopathy , and whose teachings will be funded by Laboratoires Boiron, obviously dedicated to the development of homeopathic medicines and whose official website no advertise here (you can find it easily). According Newsletter of the University, one of its main goals is to publish the White Paper of homeopathy, was supposed to be something like the Bible in this discipline and a tool to disseminate it in society. Wait for the publication of that book and read it carefully, but do not think there's anything new. The principles on which homeopathy is based are well known. Scientific studies supporting them, however, are nonexistent. Here's the problem. Should we allow a discipline that, to date, has failed overcome the status of pseudoscience (can not even give the "prescience"), are formally taught at the University?
In my view, the problem is not that Homoeopathy is not a science. We all know that university is not scientific and no protest about it (Law, Philology, philosophy, even theology, etc). Are areas of knowledge, society and culture are also of interest. The problem is the intention and, above all, the brazenness with which these people it attempts to science and medicine, something that is neither one nor the other. And I have no personal interest in this, not being in fee collection against the formalization of Homeopathy. Moreover, I'm even open to the possibility that their theories may be true. Of course, I think the least we should demand is proven. And I think the correct order is: first show and then formalize it, not vice versa. It's like I am inventing a theory now, and before showing it, I think the university concerned. "To teach what? "Hypothesis? Today
digital daily 20minutes recorded the statement of Javier Lanuza, Professor of Pharmacology who will lead the department, who claimed that homeopathy "is a social reality it's there ". Yes, it certainly is there, but that is not sufficient criteria to make it a chair. A demand for something, although significant, does not mean you have to make graduate study. By this token, there is also demand for mediums, psychics and witchcraft groups, and we are not going to create the chair of Tarot to investigate the reality of astrological charts. I have the impression that if the tarot had the acceptance that is taking homeopathy, would end up going the same. Make a Chair of Homeopathy seems a very dangerous first step that leaves the door open to chaos. It is assumed that what should be taught University must be serious and rigorous whose veracity is established or is of genuine interest or social benefit, not because there are many people willing to buy pure water at the price of gold under the slogan "it works for me."
scientists, critics and skeptics have responded through their digital media to denounce this issue and explain in detail why homeopathy, at least for now, is not science and even why the principles on which it is based are scientifically very questionable, in addition to not being empirically validated. Serve as an example and summary entry "Why homeopathy is a hoax" ,'s blog Migui science and culture. Even more recently the web has created queeslahomeopatia.com with the firm intention to report in detail on the details of this fraud. Any reader who take some time to review these links, you will see that they are offered scientific arguments to refute the claims homeopaths. What do homeopaths? Do you also offer scientific arguments to prove his theories? No, limited to mourn, shouting or playing the victim of a conspiracy antihomeópata appealing to the reader's feelings, trying to move him to gain his confidence by playing dirty, as we read in this entry titled "Homeopathy and its critics" of ABC Homeopathy. Do not miss the comments. Clearly, if there is no scientific, double-blind experiments and stuff, there are no more resources than the tantrum.
- There is a campaign to collect signatures "by Free University of pseudoscience and obscurantism." You can read and if you're interested, sign the Manifesto here.
- If you have Facebook, you can also join the group interested "homeopathy, the healing power of absence" , where all members news and stuff we collected in follow-up of the subject and / or the more general "Our favorite magufos" .

Angel Wings With Babies Tattoo
I believe that death is a natural process that has always interested and troubled man to a greater or lesser extent since developing awareness or ability to realize such a phenomenon. And of course, the natural curiosity leads to the need for explanation. The first explanations were supernatural could obviously not be scientific. Are responsible for them religion and esotericism, and even in antiquity the Scientia "had a broader meaning and refers mainly to know who claimed to be esoteric knowledge deepest and highest of all things " (quote from the Wikipedia ), the modern scientific method guide marked a break with the magic and mysticism and the gap between scientific knowledge and other forms of knowledge. In
revolve around death all human cultures and social organizations. Thus his conception of death as an end or as a transit, its belief in life after death on Judgement Day ... act as constraints to the performance of individuals in one way or another. The idea of \u200b\u200bimmortality and the belief in the Hereafter appear in one form or another in virtually all societies and historical moments. However, to date no conclusive evidence for the afterlife.Scientific explanations of death are appealing to the properties of matter and the physical-chemical and biological properties of living tissues. The body's inability to maintain homeostasis or internal dynamic balance of all system parameters that would produce the physical effect we call death. But more interesting than death itself, or just interesting but fascinating (at least for me) are the psychological aspects associated with death in animals with higher cognitive functions, consciousness and culture animal: humans.
The second question to emerge from human death and perhaps the most interesting is: What happens to humans after death? Actually, what wonder is what happens to the mental faculties of the person who has died. Some believe it is preserved by the spirit that impelled her mind, raising your consciousness even higher realities, others believe in the migration of the soul of a human being after his death to a level unattainable physically. The Christian religion considers death as the end of the physical permanence of the human being in its flesh, the spirit leaves the physical body deteriorates and is unable to stand under the laws of this finite universe, and immediately turns to God ( Ecclesiastes 12:7).
As we saw the other day , Raymond Moody was the first to want to address the issue in a rigorous and systematic, with the difficulties inherent in this type of issues. He listed the visions and sensations that patients reported who suffered near death experiences and recorded his observations in the book Life After Life . The scientific or natural explanations Moody offers in her book are not very enlightening to say, whether the author's partisanship or weakness of science in those years. Then you will find the theories that drive the modern neuroscience regard.
Fallacies in Psychology , the skeptic and controversial Rolf Degen provides an overview of the main features of NDEs reported by Moody offering alternative explanations. First, these experiences are described accompanied by feelings of peace and happiness, with visits from angels and other beings of light, but Moody does not seem to be aware that historically, and in the medieval period in particular, have reported such experiences very different:
As noted by the historian Professor Peter Dinzelbacher, University of Stuttgart, in Greek antiquity Individual accounts should be raised (anabioseis) as well as decreases in the inner world (katabaseis), but has not reached us neither. From the Middle Ages, by contrast, form their own genre, starting with the apocalyptic writings and visions of martyrs. This vision literature contains descriptions of visits to the Beyond the dead not communicated to people you trust. In the anthologies, ie, collections of lives of saints and other clerical writings of the sort, are also referred to such presences that appear to him dying in the last extremity. But we must also take into account other cultures, where the stories are narrated have nothing to do with Christian culture:
Sometimes it is visited by emissaries of the mythological realm of Christianity, perhaps Jesus himself, Mary, a saint or an angel. But there was more frequent terrible vision of hell and other powers of darkness. For example, account of Bishop Martin of Tours that his last words before dying were: "What I want here, bloodthirsty beast?" .
Nor can hide in the medieval view, most often, the dying man looks led to Hell, understood as the region of eternal punishment. The figures that come their way in these places are not bright, but dark, and then return to life is taken as warnings of what might have happened in the absence of repentance necessary. However, it is almost exclusively involved the medieval stories where those images of doom. Which, according Dinzelbacher reflects the fact that today we have another image of divinity, which is the good God, rather than the vengeful and avenging God of dies irae. Today the psychological interpretation of the passions to play down the ideas of guilt and just punishment, and especially the New Age movement prefers to imagine a utopian era of harmony and spiritual progress. So dominant for the modern man's belief in a happy transit.
The Swiss climbers, for example, whose experiences of near-death in 1891 published the geologist Albert Heim in the yearbook Jahrbuch des Schweizer Alpenclubs not crossed the Underworld and in the Middle Ages, and passed through no tunnel, but fell into a mountain landscape "with a beautifully blue sky dotted with pink puffs." The Hopi Indians when they die the prairie road crosses the eternal hunting grounds and India go to heaven mounted on a cow.Personally, I think, without denying the universality of death as a physical phenomenon, at least part of the experience associated with it can easily be due to purely cultural. Other issues, however, may be more physiological, if we consider that can be reproduced artificially by the use of drugs. According to the psychiatrist Karl Jensen, "intravenous injection of 70 to 150 ml of ketamine can reproduce all aspects of the NDE" . Indeed, the effects of this substance are rather unpleasant, so doctors often administer anesthesia mixed with other substances. In addition, "there is not a single feature of the experience that has not been obtained also by surgical stimulation of the parietal lobes, or by weak electromagnetic fields or other artificial stimuli, "summarizes the psychologist Persinger.
A theoretical explanatory model that links the ECM issues like the light at the end of the tunnel, the sensation of being dragged through it and the retrospect of life, which includes Rolf Degen alluding to his colleague, psychologist Susan Blackmore, and part of the idea of \u200b\u200bcerebral hypoxia:
The hidden depths of the brain is an organ particularly sensitive to lack of oxygen, the hippocampus, which is the central switching memory. Is the filter that determines which memories to consciousness will and why others do not. In situations of greatest danger to life, nervous inhibition disappears, as demonstrated by the experiments with rats. In the emerging consciousness of memory images without hindrance, and the brain, which always tries to make sense of the information it receives, making chaos in retrospect, just the "movie of life."Recent studies also indicate a possible relationship between these phenomena and a high level of carbon dioxide in the blood. For the feeling
If oxygen deprivation persists, Blackmore continues the theoretical model, it causes a general disinhibition nervous. This model has been possible to simulate by computer the vision of light at the end of a tunnel. This view is probably linked to the primary structure of the optical cortex, the meeting place of the sensations in the brain lighting. "They are much more numerous nerve cells under the center of the visual field and peripheral exceedingly scarce change" . But as they disconnecting inhibitory neurons (because they consume more energy and oxygen than the other), and largely uncontrolled discharges nerve, the brain interprets the signals save neurons from optical and a glow. "And in the center of vision is more nerve cells active, you get the feeling that the light at the end of a tunnel" . As downloads increase, expands the visual field invaded by the glare, and this is what produces the illusory sense of traveling at light speed.
The Rudolf Virchow University Clinic of the University of Berlin has shown that lack of oxygen which causes the visual manifestations of matter. Doctors cause a loss in 42 adolescents by the method of giving up to 22 seconds of hyperventilation, followed by a sudden pressure on the rib cage. This is how the experimenters produce acute cerebral hypoxia. Subsequently, subjects counted visions and representations very similar to those of the NDE.
bypass, called a out-of-body-trip , one of the most legendary and prolific figures in all literature pseudoscientific, Degen again referring to his colleague Blackmore offering a possible explanation in terms of psychology Cognitive
A symptom that often occurs during the attacks is that patients believe they are outside or feel as duplicates. The contemplation of the scene in front of bird cognitive psychologists explain it by saying that our brain constructs at all times three-dimensional image that surrounds us. The sum of these three-dimensional images of a bird's eye view. "Close your eyes and try to imagine a bird's eye view where you are now. You'll be amazed how easy it is ".Another characteristic pointed out by Moody is the fact that people returning from the ECM undergo a profound change in his personality, his attitude towards life and his understanding of death. Even many embrace religion. I think the change in attitude and religious motivation are easy to do with one's own psychological interpretation that the patient is from trauma, which also could influence their personality. However, Degen reports that the psychologist Persinguer goes a step further:
Persinguer psychologist has been raised even if the changes triggered by the NDE does not really reflect brain injury. "Most of the incentives mentioned in connection with the ECM can certainly be compared with an insidious destruction of brain cells' . That loss would affect in particular hippocampal neurons. But this center, when deaths occur cellular neuroplastic modification presented below. That is, the remaining neurons form new dendrites and synapses. Outwardly, these adaptation processes could take the appearance of a personality change. MoodyECM recognizes that artificially induced experiences recounted similar in some respects, but thinks there are more differences than similarities. However, remember once again that Moody's position may be compromised. Anyway, neuroscientific explanations do not cover all aspects of ECM. For example, does not explain why some experiences are happy and some rather unpleasant, and possible cultural differences or exactly how they influence the neurobiological level experience suffered. Currently research is ongoing large-scale study called AWARE Human Consciousness Project, involving 16 hospitals in the UK and U.S. 9, coordinated by a team from the University of Southampton. Studies culminate in March 2011. It is less.

Psychobiology of death Life after life
Life After Life (1975) is the title of Raymond Moody's book is the first attempt, with its successes and its failures, to formalize or standardize in some way the characteristics of what baptizes himself in this essay as near-death experiences (ECM / NDE), creating a school and driving, unfortunate and uncritically, to creating authentic pseudo calls to endorse formally the existence of mystical properties, supernatural or paranormal of human beings on this type of physical experiences, assuming that there is also evidence of the Hereafter and the metaphysical separation of body and mind or soul or whatever, against the wishes of the author's own:
But Moody's fears came true. Moody
doctorate in Philosophy and subsequently extended to specialize in psychiatric medicine. He was interested in philosophy of medicine, but recounted the experiences of patients who had been at death's door attracted his attention by the way, was curious and went to collect case studies on the subject. This book is the fruit of that first collection. His research involved the study of 150 clinical cases, but only personally interviewed 50 people. Their material draws on three types of cases: experiences reported by subjects who have been clinically dead and have been revived, experiences reported by subjects from accidents or illnesses have been very close to physical death and testimony of third persons who some subjects, before dying, they told their experiences.
While not a scientific test, the book does not pretend to be a clear attempt to scam. The author shows some caution and his intentions seem sincere and try to be more or less neutral. Not to protect any specific position, but basically present the facts he found, offering different possible explanations were handled at that time, including biological (but at that time were not very accurate). However, although he tries, he can not help expressing some of partisanship as he did believe in the Hereafter. The book includes a section explaining the methodology employed and the author is the first to acknowledge that their research is not strictly scientific because it is based on testimony in a sample not properly randomized and uncontrolled situations (medical emergencies), and even gives some brief instructions on how to end further research more rigorously. Moody
found in the testimony that he handled a series of patterns or common elements of the experiences reported, and were independent of patients' cultural beliefs. However, Moody does not forget to tell us that the sample was rather small, that all respondents belonged to the Judeo-Christian tradition and, obviously, not all subjects who have been on the brink of death then refer mystical experiences, many do not remember anything, so that the sample is chosen from among those who have something interesting to say.
Gathering all the elements mentioned by subjects who experienced ECM, Moody produced a story complete theoretical model or type of experience, therefore, is not a representation of the ECM of a person, but a theoretical abstraction that should be clear at least the following essential aspects: although there are similarities, no account is identical to another ; no subject concerns all elements of the narrative kind, though always present most of them, and the order in which they occur can vary from one experience to another.
In total, Moody produced a list of 15 items (which are actually 14 because one of them can not be considered a characteristic of the ECM, as it only refers to the fact that when the patient wakes up, to tell their experience to others, often complain that they do not believe) or feeling ineffability can not explain in words what happened, claim to have listened to doctors or spectators to report their own death, feelings of peace and quiet, perception of noise or hum sometimes unpleasant feeling of being pushed by a dark tunnel body experiences (out-of-body) ; encounter with others, which were supposedly there to ease the transition to death or to inform them that they must return to their bodies, the perception of an intense bright light, the panoramic review of his life approaching a kind of border or boundary; desire to return to the physical body (except in cases where it reaches a certain depth of experience, in which case they often want to stay), change of attitude in their lives to return, which includes a new vision of death and religion, and Many people report events in the physical while the experience occurred. In any case, as the author concedes, the different versions reported by the patients may simply represent different ways of interpreting individual, describe or recall the basis of experience. Finally, Moody said a number of significant parallels between the stories reported by patients and some literary texts from different periods and cultures, such as the Bible the Tibetan Book of the Dead , some writings of Plato and the mystical experiences reported by Emanuel Swedenborg, an eighteenth century naturalist in a later period of his life underwent a religious crisis began to speak of spiritual experiences.
Among the explanations offered, are the supernatural and the natural or scientific (pharmacological, physiological, neurological and psychological), which, in my opinion, the author was rushing too much to discredit. Perhaps in this section is where the author relies too. In the next post we will see the modern critical to the principles of Moody and current scientific explanations (and more elaborate than in 1975) for most of its premises.

But also deeply concerned about near-death experiences are not perverted, transforming the excuse for a new cult. This phenomenon should not be identified with me or any other person who has studied. death Pseudosciences
Raymond Moody did not know he was opening Pandora's box when posting Life after life in 1975. No man had bad intentions. In this first attempt to seriously and objectively consider the phenomenon of near-death experiences (ECM-or English, NDE, Near Death Experiences ), followed by other books, collections of spiritual experiences that supposedly came to demonstrate the idea that consciousness survives physical death, to the delight of religious groups. But the fruit of these interests, plus books, was the creation of pseudo-real death, as if we were not already enough of dealing with life.
The testimony from ECM's awakened interest in the study of human consciousness, but unfortunately, not always from a scientific perspective. I will not say that science has to explain everything, but I think it should be the starting point, see how far, what science can tell us about the issue before embracing other approaches or methods whose efficacy has not been proven, and even, in many cases has been denied.
Conscientiology. It gives a general description, at the same priceless, Wikipedia: "Conscientiology is the science devoted to the study of consciousness in an integrated manner, considering all vehicles of manifestation (holosoma), the multiple dimensions (multidimensional) , the many lives (seriality), and the evolution consciential consciential based on the paradigm. " Pa piss and take no drop.
The Projectiology . If I have not misunderstood, has to do with the study of the ways in which human consciousness can be projected beyond the physical body, which would have to do with the so-called "astral projection" or, more technically, the OBE ( out-of-body experience ), so often referred to in many ECM's. It seems, therefore, a specific branch of the conscientiology that.
The words we owe to the character Waldo Vieira, who is fun to look for information on the web. There is consensus that the dentist, some pages will add physical training and some other will also added, and this is my favorite, as a medium in Brazil. His major works are Projections of Consciousness - Daily Out of Body Experiences Physical (1981), which presents the great pubic projectiology and treaties Projectiology: Panorama of Experiences, Out-of- Human Body (1986) and 700 Experiments conscientiology (1994). I would like to know how the hell is an experiment conscientiological of those. But it is not here, because the Conscienciopédia (the conscienciopédia!) Also reveals that a whopping 22 proposed theories and no less than 70 specialties Conscientiological. This is a whole world. This man can not be left alone with a pen and some paper or a computer equipped with word processor because I prepared it at a time ...
Not content with all that, he gathered a group of researchers and founded the International Institute Projectiology (IIP) in 1988, tremendous distribution in Latin America. Now part of all this pseudo-framing hundreds of professionals and stakeholders, physicists, doctors, everything. And here I am in Spain concerned about whether homeopathy takes a lot of publicity or if you sell too many rubber bracelets ... Is also invaluable this interview to an official of the institution, I invite you to browse for fun, where they try to explain that although their work is often confused with religion and its people attended events in the world of spiritualism, is what they do science and should not be confused. By the way, I also learned that there is a English Spiritist Federation that fabric. This of pseudoscience is more widespread and diversified than you thought, is a full-fledged terminal cancer ...
Finally, you mentioned that some of these issues goes also Institute of Noetic Sciences, created under the psiconeuroacupuntura , supposedly studying everything related to "the mind", whether physical or not, whether scientific or not. Has relationships with the bio-energy and alternative medicine. Will in the end, all rogues know each other, and, as they say, everything is at home. Related Entries

How Do I Make Slides For A Projector
The educational value of fiction
If anything I love the "scifi" is not so much by its scientific content, which but unfortunately also are often poorly treated, for its section ethical and philosophical when it is not a mere amalgam of visual effects and has some chicha, of course. Stories that raise things that make you think about different aspects of life need not be unique to this genre, but it is true that scifi and fiction in general have the peculiarity of paid a lot of interesting things can easily raise , plus you can integrate several genres into one: action, drama, fantasy, horror, adventure, comedy, precisely because it is a genre (fiction) that seems designed for this purpose.
Science Science Fiction and
Normally usually scifi have little science, and not just because often what we see on the screen is not set too well with the rules of physics, delighting geeks who like to find inconsistencies in scenes of scifi, but rather from a general point of view, precisely because while the mission of science is to explain the reality, the mission is to raise possibilities of fiction. Science deals with what it is. Science fiction plays with what might be. The imaginative component here override empiricism be required to science. However, I consider scifi vehicle for disseminating scientific indirect, in that, in the best part of scientific evidence inconclusive (hypotheses and theories) and plays with them asking, with varying degrees of success or likelihood, different opportunities. But here the interested viewer will hear the name of this or that theory and then will go to the Internet or wherever to more information and see what it actually is, and this is something positive. That is, science scifi reports of curiosity in those who have, of course. But it is an attractive element that can bring knowledge to the uninitiated a little more precise.
For those interested, a couple of good places to eviscerate scientific inconsistencies are MalaCiencia and Physics at the Science Fiction .
Fiction and Philosophy
scifi or fiction in general, used correctly, are powerful tools through which we can raise a lot of things. We portray the society in which we live and we denounce it. This feature is not unique to this genre. A good drama can realistically rooted to the seat and cause us to rethink certain things, but by its very nature (fiction and alternative approach) I would say is their primary function.
For example, in the series Sliders ( Skip to inifinite ), a group of adventurers have and use technology through which they can slide between parallel Earths, in which each line of historical events has been different, generating results (companies and cultures) very different. With this pretext, scientifically hypothetical questions posed in Chapters different: In one chapter, entitled "The weaker sex," play with mischief to portray how society would be if they send the women instead of men in another war America lost Korea and the Sino-Soviet Empire swept the globe, depicting a U.S. under Soviet rule, while in another there are androids who experience human emotions through which poses the classic theme the essence of human nature. This theme is also found, with shades or from other perspectives, in other series as Caprica, Battlestar Galactica or chapters of the Stargate franchise . In another our travelers landing in a world decimated by infection because they did not discover penicillin. In another chapter pretty funny, scientists and intellectuals are the ones with fame and power and are more prized than the politicians and athletes, and people go crazy and ask for autographs when they see down the street to a scientist and all society is very intellectualized. In another suicide is institutionalized as a means of population control and is voluntary because it is internalized as a moral value and fully established and accepted with pride by the company. This theme also seen in an episode of Stargate . In other pseudoscience have won the war on science and the world is entirely mediated by magic: it's great when a character enters a phone booth to check the yellow pages and find ads that are all sorcerers, witches , healers, psychics, etc. In an invaluable chapter of Farscape using alien crew's own character as a vehicle for reporting earthling consumer society. And finally, I could talk hours of this, so there is inaugurated a new section on the blog to comment on interesting stories scifi and fiction in general.
Fiction and Psychology
Other series lovingly caring for the psychological aspect of the characters, showing more or less detail how it affects exposure to different existential and ethical problems. This is one of the highlights of reimagined Battlestar Galactica. Stargate Universe try to play too, with varying degrees of success, with these elements. In Farscape we can see the changing nature of its main characters, Crichton and Aeryn, the gradual strengthening of the character of the first and the development of greater human sensitivity in the second. We also found that in the case of Daniel Jackson and Teal'c on Stargate SG-1 or Spock in Star Trek . Nor can we forget the progressive transformation of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars . In another vein, can also play scifi-invent chemical, biological or technological devices that directly or indirectly to the intellectual and emotional capacities of those who use, which influences their attitudes to life, ways understand the world, decision making, etc.
Finally, if you have something scifi and fiction in general is that they tend to make problems seem insignificant we are accustomed to in real life, to wipe out all differences and unite against enemies, objectives and ideals, enabling developing a more critical eye toward our environment. In almost all science fiction series real battles are fought to save entire planets, and we are here scandalized by the kiss of Sara Carbonero in the media. In many of the scifi stories must overcome all the cultural differences because only when entire planets are together there is some probability of victory, and while we are still here looking at your neighbor with a grudge that you return the hammer or casually watching how he beat up an immigrant. When I see science fiction, often just ashamed of how life on our planet and how we are human beings. I think seeing science fiction makes us want to be a little better.

Homophobia in Facebook
this afternoon to join my Facebook account I see in the new panel of my contacts a link to a group entitled "No to homosexuality" and a request to report to it. At first I thought I was reading "No to homophobia", and it seemed normal, but after a sharp focus with polishing the lens and I noticed that the monitor was a group of denunciation of homosexuality and not homophobia. Unfinished believe it much, I visited the link in question to see if it was a joke or something, and if it is a joke, participants are some cracks, because they seem really homophobic. Many users have reported network and site administrators to the group in question, and as I assume (I hope) that will cease to exist soon, I made a screenshot of wall, where you can read it clear both the statement of intent as some comments. Cases like this seem to show how homosexuality is still not entirely accepted in some places, though I hope not naively, that the group is a minority homophobic. I imagine that these people are quite intolerant, have little open-mindedness, perhaps a low cultural level and / or personal problems that they move to displace or project their own fears and insecurities about the gay community. However, there are curious and famous cases such as homophobic the lecturer at the University of Alicante , whose video has been circulating enough for the network, and I'm not sure how to fit. I find it equally odd that a doctor dedicated to homeopathy .
this afternoon to join my Facebook account I see in the new panel of my contacts a link to a group entitled "No to homosexuality" and a request to report to it. I also invite Facebook users to read this and have not yet done so to report too.

Neomente Test divides sex
is time for changes to the blog. Besides the change to a template adapted native Blogger finally given me and offers all the aesthetic details that I want, thereby improving the integration and functionality of the blog entries have transferred more jets, geeks and paranoid to a parallel blog is intended only to show me more bizarre and surreal, leaving Neomente to more interesting issues and "serious" (bearing in mind that my "seriousness" is relative:-P), and thus step I used to disseminate content more directly related to the studies that I perform in the future.
why I invite you to follow my new blog shabby-jam-salchichero in the sidebar I have added as "Patio entertainment."
Neomente supplementary contents have been reduced for the sake of simplicity and functionality. The chat is not gone, but instead of being left alone I have made a direct link to access it in a separate window. Although it is not being used much ...
Some elements such as the browser, the fans, the file or tag, are properly placed in the footer.
And I think that's all.

H 30 till September this year is available for everyone over 18 years, the fifth edition of Study on Sexual Behavior and Preferences of Internet Users in Spain . Upon expiration of the term can still do the test, but the data are not considered for the study.
According to the same page, "The Test of Sex has two purposes: to present and analyze an extensive compilation of representative data on sexuality English but also as a tool to help each person individually involved to know their sexual instincts Index (IPS) ".
This index is supposed to be a measure of eroticism of the subject, a value that presumably reflect the degree of interest that a person has sex, or the degree of importance that sex has in her life, but I that after having done carefully it does not seem to fit right questions to this ambitious task. The factors involved and explain the whys of the sexual contacts of people are varied and I have found that they are collected in this survey as being representative. The test assumes that you have the opportunity to practice, part of the premise, but the truth is not all have the same opportunities. Those who want but can not remain outside the studio, so one of the alleged targets were not achieved, it can happen that an individual has more interest in sex of the test reflected, for example through lack of opportunity or inexperience .
clarified this point, I will say that the test also has its value. There are interesting questions to discuss, but questions remain somewhat strange and mostly still lacking basic response options. For example, question "What time prefer to have sex? , offers to choose from a variety of times of the day-morning, noon, afternoon or evening, forgetting the option of, for example, "anytime" to those whose libido not feel a special inclination for a certain time in particular. Also, when asked what you use sex toys, offers a range of options, vibrator ring, gel, effects heat / cold or Chinese balls, and again force you to choose just one, when it is obvious that many will miss the option of For example, several, all or none.
questions I found interesting was that on the fantasies while masturbating to excite, with whom you often daydream? Known , friend, relative, friend, partner, friend, partner, coworker, famous, your partner or do not masturbate ever. It appreciates the variety of fantasy that is presented, but the last option should be preceded by an "various", unless we are required to have to fantasize always or almost always with the same person.
The same problem in question find what you like to say during sex? and even included a box where you could custom write the sentence we wanted. That's fine, but a "no" to those who are not so talkative in intimate moments, would not more. I chose to write "None" in the box in question. But worse are the answers to question for the boys, Do you like you practice oral sex? Yes and I like to swallow semen, Yes and I'm like swallow the semen or do not like where you are left with silly face wondering if they mean that you do not like to swallow your semen or that you do not like to practice fellatio ...
Do you consider the year an erogenous zone? is a question likely to find out if we still think, at least in the case of boys, that's gay. What is your biggest fear when having sex? not get my partner has an orgasm, failing to have an orgasm, do not get an erection my penis does not like or to experience Carnegie syndrome also seems to me an interesting question that highlights the psychological fears that may assault on the bed, and in fact it is known that most erection problems and impotence are psychological (insecurity, pressure, imposed social expectations, etc.) and no medical or biological. By the way, I the only one I know is Carnegie self-help writing essays , so that or syndrome is a fantastic invention and control of sincerity in the answers, or that someone enlighten me. Speaking of questions-control, if last year was the stance of the platypus that so many made us laugh, of this year is no less funny, "Nimzowich attack."
interesting at the same time curious is the question Are you connecting to sex sites on the Internet after watching a sporting event on television? If my team wins to celebrate, if my team loses to drown sorrows, Sometimes, Always or Never. I think what they want to know is if we experience an increased libido after seeing an event's kind of exciting. If so, would have been better than the questions directly as well as the other way who would not fail to connect but can not relieve stress or otherwise ...
Finally, note that until the crisis has his small role in this study, as we wonder if we note that the crisis has adversely affected our regular sex life. Far from being a trivial question, probably has to do with the fact that it has been stated, from evolutionary biology, economics is a subject of great concern for women when to be intimate, so it might lose interest in sex because they are more concerned about how to make ends meet, being a little rough. For the man could also be a source of stress as the crisis threatens the stability of employment in many trades.
I found most interesting to see what questions put and try to find out from them what we want to know exactly who know the index of the sexual instinct, which as I suggested at first seems silly to me as a great cathedral.
Until next time.

How Long To Get Omeprazole Out Of Your System
Livin 'la vida loca
H t is time I read an opinion, I do not remember if it was the typical "letter to the editor" of a newspaper or a blog post, not the meeting, which reflects certain beliefs fairly widespread social and with whom, how could it be otherwise, I disagree. The reasoning came to be that to be mature and clear thinking when we come to 30-35 years, we have done the fool and have committed the most errors, follies and excesses at 20, because the more experience you had and more things are known, we will have clearer after what they want and what we do not want in life. "I feel that if I do now I will not ever" Youth is a fairly widespread belief. What they can not figure out is if they regret having made those mistakes.
I calls attention to such excesses that many people refer to as "enjoy life." The idea is to also be that if you do not "enjoy life" of young people, we will not ever because after have to "settle down." In my opinion, here are driving a few pre-established social beliefs far from encouraging. It is as if there were internal feeling that feeling like you enjoy life you have to commit abuses and excesses that will test even their health. But by this token, then all parents should be a bitter, with so many burdens and responsibilities. Personally, I find it very sad that "fun" means delirious excesses and abuses and unchecked. Nobody says that there is not a little crazy, I've drunk a bottle once and done, but if we do not set any rational limit the consequences can be dire. In addition, may have lived many different experiences you should have an overall knowledge over the years will make it easier to identify what they want, but what price we paid for doing things this way? For example, a person used to do as he pleases at all times (it seems that is what people mean by "enjoy life", which otherwise shows the dangerous level of hedonism to we are coming), it is likely that rather know little or nothing about "decision making", an exercise that takes a lifetime to be refined.
seems we want the reward at the beginning, without having done anything to deserve it. It is thought which must be exploited to do now all the crazy things happen to us because then comes the bad. Teach us to see that the reward comes at the end, after planting, and not the beginning and to see that the excesses do not have to do with fun or mature or "settle down" with being embarrassed, is an urgent task and responsibility of all parents and educators.
Furthermore, the reasoning "far exceeded all to know what you want in the future" just shows, if anything, a possible way to achieve this goal is the clarity of ideas, but it is neither possible nor the only way I seems the most healthy. And when I say that I disagree with this reasoning is not because si tuviera una relación con una persona joven y asumiera este planteamiento tendría que cortar diciendo: "Mira, tenemos que dejarlo porque aún eres muy joven y tienes mucho que explorar antes de decidir si quieres estar conmigo"; sino porque yo también tuve 20 años y cuando tenía 20 años no pensaba así y no cometí esos abusos ni adquirí todas esas experiencias de la vida, y a pesar de ello no me ha hecho falta llegar a los 35 ni a los 30, ya con 25 tenía bastante claro qué quería en la vida y qué no quería (al menos a nivel personal, que es de lo que hablo). Ergo hay más vías posibles para alcanzar la "iluminación" que el camino de Dionisos (el dios más vago de todo el Olimpo, by the way). "I'm bored because I druggie nor frequent brothels (including service clubs) or because I do not easily lend itself to transactions meat? Be. I personally am very satisfied and proud of my life. I enjoy my way and those other ways that I did not happen either. Everyone is everyone, that's for sure, but after complaints come not suffering fools, but serious, that could have been avoided had done things differently.
I do not want when you have 35 years and finally you know what you want because you have tried all kinds of good and bad experiences, discover it what you want you have lost it long ago and can not recover, and all for making the asshole.
And do not say these words with resentment because I am not going or have gone through an experience that moves me to want to unburden myself in this regard. It's just my theoretical opinion on the matter. I have done things differently and I got the same result as allegedly being pursued: to keep things clear, therefore, or am I an exception or an example of how things can be done otherwise.

Unterschied Emu Bronte Und Emu Wool
Blackmail Football is the people's coca FIMP
P or mysteries life, my genetic makeup has not called me in the way of football in my hobbies. I do not like. But it's a love-me-not in absolute, not relative, because there are two types of people who "do not like football": those who dislike or indifference causes them, except when you play a team that they identify the reason (family influence, patriotism, etc), and they do not really like, with all the consequences, play who you play. Those of the second type are, I suspect, an endangered species. I have not seen a single football match in my life. While playing the English these days I played Heroes of Might & Magic V.
at school and institute, when the physical education teacher was generous day, could have the "detail" to send us to play a football match, in the belief that really excite us all. Those days for me were nightmares. I was 1% would have voted against it. Sometimes they offered us no alternative. These days I used to use it and almost always ended up playing badminton with the girls. For me it went infinitely better. The only trick was to find a girl with a coordination minimally acceptable, but good, the bad ... In general I have always been more of racket ball for these things.
However, my case is a bit unusual, because I'm almost at the opposite end. Not only do not like football, but sometimes depending on mood, it can bother. I still say more to irritate me. It is an automatic emotional response that I live occasionally, in years past than at present. Maybe it has something to do with the set of specific circumstances and somewhat atypical in sport, usually football around the world. Why this sport generates so much aggression in people? Why these cries and several scandals when game day? One passes in front of a bar when someone dials a goal and the collective roar is deafening. And yes, it is sociology that explains why mass behavior involving a spread of attitudes, but I do not why this happens individually. One is in the privacy of your home, away from social contagion, and you can scream. I speak from experience as a neighbor.
Why this does not happen with other sports? It is not customary shouting curses and cries creative when a player loses the advantage or sends two consecutive aces to the network. And so I say that football is the coca of people, not opium, as Marx suggested, because the opium is depressing, but because football excitement, so I think that a drug stimulant and depressant not be better. It is true that does not alter the original meaning, as Marx meant to imply that football is the easiest way to access people's pleasure and happiness after a hard day's work, and as such retains its meaning. Shouting
unreasonably always seemed uncivilized, but also may have something to do with the fact that I am a quiet person to disgust. The other situation in which it is curious how many people also lose some papers of decorum is driving. Peaceful and normal people, who never say a word higher than another, leading professors suddenly become the expletive.
And the amount of money that moves the football business? Despicable. The clubs are laughing at the crisis in the face. We can not have been such a disparity in wages. I can not get into his head that could claim millions and millions just to start running after a ball, basically to entertain yourself and others. And the hard workers of all life difficulties to make ends meet.
In summary, I accept that everyone has their tastes. I do not mind who likes football, although I wonder the reason for the imbalance, because I believe that football beats other sports with overwhelming majority. Maybe just tradition, custom? Like other sports are perceived as more elitist, representing football "sport of the people" of all time? I am bothered by the characteristics that often accompany it.

Wheybolic Extreme 60 Stack
Gijon 2010 (II): Science and network
S eguimos. Following the table held skepticism of science and network with those responsible for Siemens Siemens Siemens Science , Microserfs , Physics in Science Fiction and Yoriento , with the director of the magazine QUO and head of product and muyinteresante.es geo.es world, moderated by the head of Fogonazos . Whose content saved a chat closely related to the previous table happened to share with you.
World plant and digital world
expressed in these terms Jorge Alcalde, director of the magazine Quo, who believed that means "plant world", referring to the contents printed on paper, the world of cellulose should not be perceived as a dichotomy of old media versus new media, but, in his words, "there are old ways of doing things and new ways of doing things," expressing the general idea that the role and network are simply means different premise also defended by Noel Dueñas, product manager of two known digital magazines, who explained that the content printed on paper can not move without the digital medium because it simply does not work. They are different products require different treatment. Thus began a small war media Live where bloggers like Manuel Herman, Siemens Siemens Siemens Science, suggested the existence of a special complexity in the issue of disclosure of environmental science when speaker is in itself a business , which requires recognition of commercial interests involved, which may adversely affect the "transparency" (the word given by Alfonso Alcantara, Yoriento) content. Manuel Herman used the word "popularization" to refer to media reporting of payment, a term that sparked immediate protest of the guests involved. In particular, Noelia Dueñas complained about the negative connotations of the term as if he were speaking from an elitist superiority plane where you have to teach the ignorant. However no one doubted the importance of bringing science to the world and all expressed their hope that this happens and its rejection of the idea that science is elitist. Personally, I agree with the guests about the noble and laudable intention of bringing science to everyone, but I like to point out the need to ask at what price? For if to sell and science reach the people, we must distort it, even just a little, we already paying a fairly high price. This distortion has to do with a thing called sensationalism, word was not mentioned specifically but I suspect it is closer to what actually was thinking Herman, thinking that "popularity" was his way of easing. But hey, no blood came to river.
burned the powers!
A survey intended to probe the interest of science for the people of the street, pointed out that, on average, more interested in sport science, and specifically on the latter stated percentages take into account the answers "I do not understand" and "Not interested" facts to which he could not help shocked Sergio L. Palacios, a physics professor and head of Physics at the Science Fiction, which is both a blog and a course designed by him who teaches at the university and raised open to all races, both of letters and science, distinction that in his view seems absurd because a person must be fully trained and being educated should assume to know all areas of knowledge in general. He also criticized the apathy of most teachers of all subjects, briefly exposing the dismal educational scenario university, which led to a general critique of the educational system and at the same Palacios, in a moment of passion, to exclaim: "We burned the powers!". Also lamented the absurdity of a computer class in high schools, explaining that the Computer is only a tool, as such, should be integrated into all classes. "Imagine a kind of pencil," he said ironically on the subject. We can say that he preaches, for in their subject is integrated informatics and some proposed activities are digital. Missing

Missing

Gijón FIMP 2010 (I): Skepticism and Science in Internet
E hese days held in Gijón the third edition of Meeting Point Internet Eset, a Spaniard annual forum organized by bringing together elcomerciodigital.com known bloggers and publishers of digital content to discuss various issues with the Internet as a backdrop. Today in particular have taken place two panels of the most interesting: "Critical thinking, skepticism and science", which talk about today, we brought together the heads of the village irreducible , Magonia and Return of charlatans , moderated by the Maikelnai's blog , and "Science and network", which will discuss the next day, which are the two events Forum to attend as I was interested in public and I will share with you the impressions I had.
The official website of the forum, see the complete program and read brief articles that reflected the main content of the talks, and even see them live. The truth is that I've enjoyed it. Have been some interesting talks, entertaining and fun. The relaxed and casual, good cheer and humor. Time has passed fairly quickly. Hotel amenities which reflected the event, very cool and comfortable. The venue was not completed by any means, but we were not few. Touch phones, laptops and netbooks on the tables of a few assistants, and some other ipad, live twittering the event, whose contents come from a review without further delay.
Science Fiction and skepticism
The first question that the moderator wanted to deal with the guests was that told a little about what their experiences had led to the development of critical and skeptical, to which all seemed to have one thing in common: the attraction of science fiction. All young people started taking great interest in various topics addressed by science fiction, a common pattern and quite interesting in itself. Scifi has always had that natural hook that fascinates because outside of the special effects and better or worse success in using science, creative play with possibilities for being different from the known poses interesting thoughts, get easily and almost without trying to make us think. This is in my opinion the great merit of scifi and perhaps is responsible for many skeptics and critics who like to know how the world see in it an attractive vehicle for meeting those needs. Although scifi is, of course, that and more. Moreover, all also began feeling attracted to a pseudo-issue, which was initially approached with sound ingenuity that wants to unravel the mysteries of the unknown and fascinating research. Thus, many critics are aware of the skepticism start as gullible, are interested in a topic while investigating for details on the sole interest of exploring a possible new field of knowledge, they take the great disappointment of the lack of tests, the data manipulated and outright deceptions. And is not that scientists are against aliens visiting us, as pointed Luis Alfonso Gámez of Magonia, because what greater pleasure could be for them, as scientists, that this was true. We would like to believe so, we are wanting. The possibilities for exploration of new knowledge would be immense. Responsible for Magonia also said, apropos of pseudoscience, that there are areas that are attractive in themselves, like the pyramids, aliens who do not need to draw attention, and that kind of cuesiones should be harnessed to adequately inform, and you can do cool things with real content and true, simply because the issues are unmodified. Also alluded to the importance of critical thinking as a tool to use just to make sure they are cheating us. One of the guests used as a metaphor explaining the act of buying a second hand car, where before you buy we make some checks, such as the engine look a little kick or hit four wheels, as an example of critical thinking. If we use for it, use it also for the rest. Check things out, we did not create them just because, cuestionémoslas.
recruitment strategies
Another question inquired was the moderator of the type of audience that wanted to reach bloggers and the more general question of how to bring critical thinking to the whole world . Here there were two strategies different. Mauricio Schwarz, The Return of charlatans, favored a direct and aggressive critical style, which is why some readers attributed rather abruptly in his texts. This has the disadvantage of being a journalist rather limited to the circle of those who are sympathetic to their ideas, so that a direct and negative title as "The Power Balance is a scam" and by itself will make those who believe it does not tempted to read the article. It is a psychological issue. People do not like being told they're wrong. Direct denials cause a negative psychological impact of a sudden, as I commented perceptively Dale Carnegie in How to friends and influence people , who suggested a little more tact in these matters. Perhaps that is why Javier Peláez, irreducible village uses a different strategy. He proposes, in his words, the use of misleading titles, and joked with the famous bracelet explaining that instead of "The Power Balance does not work", he titled "The Power Balance makes theirs", so that to the gullible who have bought are attracted or tempted to read the content, which increases the chances of that report back. I take communion more with this second view. If we want to reach everyone, including the gullible, if we have the possibility to "convert" to the "infidels" have to be smarter than them, use psychology, that it is. Have not used by advertisers to encourage us to eat? As disseminators should have no more scruples.
abuse of scientists on television
The issue of scientific and critical thinkers as partners in television, both debates as sections, also had its place in this discussion. The guest explained how many scientists were invited to programs that had nothing to do with the issue that supposedly were going to try, suddenly found himself in embarrassing situations with a feeling almost shameful not to paint anything there, and we all remember the "I've come to talk about my book, and understood a little better how bad could one feel cheated if carried to a television program. Many interventions also distort visiting scientist, out of context or using them for the benefit of the program itself, using the halo of prestige that surrounds the real science to force the guarantor of the pseudoscience offered. It also mentioned some tricks of these magazines: photo montages or custom-made computer graphics to media studies for use as evidence in the contents of their magazines or documentaries uncovered by critical that personal contacts with the study in question confirms the authorship of the commission, and therefore, misleading, and concealed then after the publication of the critic and the subsequent refusal of journals and studies to make statements to regard. In this item I would also remember the words of denunciation who wrote the psychologist Pilar Varela relating to poor staging that scientists often have as guests on TV, compared to sellers of smoke, seasoned real showmen in the art of getting to their audience through the use of the word as a weapon, not really, but of authority. Another strategy magufa very fashionable lately, is to change the terms of lifelong science-sounding jargon without being, creating a greater impact on people. Louis, Magonia, gave as an example the recent change in terminology has been the EVP lifetime, a word that was not serious and was taken to laughter even among non-critical, the most instrumental modeln transcommunication buzzword , which of course, is thinner and more serious as it seems.
works for me!
The great psychological trap the gullible. The "works for me." The output of all fears the most critical listen as the argument to the least can do. Self-deception where the same individual who gives all power to the belief in making erroneous attributions. Superstition combines with the other great classic "injury is not going to do." And so we have more than half the population being some kind of red clothing on New Years Eve. Some because they believe it brings good luck. Others just in case, total damage is not going to do. It is also interesting to see how the human mind when it unveils a scam. The subject automatically finds another way to justify the investment to feel better, and so we have people who have acquired miraculous bracelets and finally become convinced that it does not work, reacting with a "good, is cool." I know someone who invested a considerable sum of money in one of those new vibrating platforms that only vibrate but that promise weight loss and muscle toning. I managed to convince her that it is impossible to serve for that purpose, and we looked for reasons cited by Internet. His reaction was: "Oh ... Well, at least the sessions relaxed and let me sleep better." It is found that "the consoles is not because they want."
The strength of belief
But a magazine or a person to deny the facts of which he is accused is not the worst and saddest que puede suceder. Con Mauricio vimos manipulaciones de imágenes para convertir casi cualquier cosa en un elemento parapsychology, and Luis Alfonso Gámez saw a couple of Pareidolia , including the famous pareidolia sound of the song "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin, who like me did not know, I discovered in real time at the moment and I was stunned. It was also noted that although we have psychology as mental schemes that favor the irrational belief because our brain is also a heuristic to solve problems not necessarily appeal to reason, if only for reasons of efficiency (I add), however the people distinguish very well between fantasy and reality, and concludes that the problem is mainly that most people have no alternative data (and often conflicting, I also add) that given the means to those who have regular contact, with all this more a matter of misinformation than anything else, which leads to problem of education and responsibility of the media, issues have been addressed at the next lecture and we will discuss the next day.
