do manual selection natural selection? Evolution misunderstood

Fragment end of the chapter "Evolution" of manual Fundamentals of Psychobiology
, VVAA.

"The gene pools of current populations are different solutions to environmental challenges past and present. They also represent potential for survival, higher or lower depending on their variability, for future challenges. Natural selection is a process that constantly acts on them, causing or avoiding change, not value judgments, no address, is opportunistic and, therefore, that evolution does take the path that the circumstances are imposed at all times either to generate new species or to to succumb. Our species is no exception to these circumstances, although the transmission of culture extragenic involved makes some of the items discussed here should be interpreted in a particular way and add to their own cultural evolution to explain our reality.

Choosing the sex of our children, the selection of embryos to eliminate certain alleles in the offspring or clone animals that have been shown to have special qualities to perform certain tasks is a reality. In the future, perhaps closer than we think, the gene enrichment to increase, for example, resistance to attrition and IQ become a reality. Until recently, all these actions were typical of science fiction novels. However, advances in assisted reproduction, DNA sequencing, genetic engineering and cloning, will make possible these facts and many more that have not yet imagined. No doubt this can help improve the quality of life for our descendants, but these techniques have also in our hands the tools necessary to steer the future of any kind including ours. The consequences resulting therefrom do not know. So far, evolution has been subject to the laws of chance and necessity, variability and selection natural. All living things around us (except pets and plants used in agriculture) have originated through these mechanisms of evolution. However, the new genetic techniques and assisted reproduction are allowing us to control or eliminate the chance, by intervening directly, maybe dangerously?, On two of the pillars of evolution, variability and heredity. The question then is, who now sets the necessity? Who or who made the selection? "
