As seen crawling with these sentences on page 313 of the book The Mountain Between Us (The mountain that separates us), I forgot about the time of the characters in the novel. Instead I thought the clock that the author of that work had given my husband several years ago.

A symbolic display of friendship and appreciation.

Rick used the clock until the battery ran out. Then I changed the battery. I continued to use until the belt broke, then changed his belt. After all, is not an everyday thing that someone denominated Iron Man. But every time I looked at his watch Rick, Charles made that statement.


We ran the study period grade and both men were forced to go each their own. Rick went to Wilmington to teach in the university, Charles went to Jacksonville and eventually began publishing his works. Very touching stories. Stories of people whose heart is torn and find healing hope. Stories that show the reader what is true love.


Charles said in an interview that a force that impelled him to write his novels was to answer the question, "How is the truly love someone?" The lives of the characters who live in the stories of Charles respond to that question. And the life of Charles answered that question.


This week I asked Rick, "What do you think are the strengths of Charles as a friend?" For a moment, Rick paused and then said, "He is honest in its own and requires you to be honest in yours too." He then added, "and know how to love."

Rome conquered the central plateau (II): A TALE OF VIRIAT
